GRAPHIC DESIGN Sister Corita, gained international fame for her vibrant serigraphs during the 60s and 70s. A Sister of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, she ran the Art Department at Immaculate Heart College until 1968. Corita’s art reflects her spirituality, her commitment to social justice, her hope for peace, and her delight in the world that takes place all around us. “I am not brave enough to not pay my income tax and risk going to jail. But I can say rather freely what I want to say with my art.” -Sister Corita

APAK
ART Apak is a studio run by a husband and wife team, Aaron Piland and Ayumi Kajikawa. Together they create whimsical artwork that explore beauty, mystery, and magic. I’m very impressed with their collaboration. Working with a loved one is not always the easiest thing, however, I can tell through their art that they work extremely well together. Kudos to you guys.
kevin van alest
GOLD STAR Is this not an awesome photograph? I think it’s so funny. Who would of thought that gummy worms could represent our chromosomes. Subjects of Kevin’s color photographs include every day foods and objects that are arranged into shapes and patterns inspired by formulas found in science and mathematics.
is design still a boys’ club?
ETC Interesting article commenting on the lack of great female designers. I think there are plenty of stupendous female designers, however, we just don’t know them by name. We know them through their work. Hella Jongerius makes a really true statement in the article, “To make it to the top, you need to be outspoken, self-confident and entrepreneurial, apart from having design talent. I have taught many talented young women and tried like hell to push them, but most were too shy.”
paul sahre
GRAPHIC DESIGN I’d have to say that Paul Sahre is one of my favorite designers. He’s not only a great designer but a really nice person! He’s updated is website with some awesome new work.
