RANDOM THOUGHTS The campaign that Shepard Fairey has done for Saks Fifth Avenue is live. Check it out. The campaign and their brand feels like two completely different entities. I don’t think Saks is Avant Garde enough to rock this campaign.

Handmade Nation
FILMS Handmade Nation is a film that documents a movement of artists, crafters and designers that imbue traditional handiwork techniques with a punky do-it-yourself spirit. The San Francisco Film Society will be showing the film on March 11, 2009, 7:30 pm at Mezannine.
Kumon
GRAPHIC DESIGN I remember those awful years when my parents use to drag me to Kumon classes. To this day my arithmetic skill is still horrible. Anyways, I just wanted to comment on their new look. The somber character in their logo is exactly how I felt while answering pages and pages of math problems. Wonder why they didn’t make the little dude more cheerful.
The 5000 fingers of Dr. T
www.youtube.comwww.filmfanatic.org
FILMS The 5000 Fingers of Dr. T is the only film written and designed by Dr. Seuss. I haven’t seen the actual movie but I did watch the trailer. It feels very dark and dazzling all at the same time. I would say it’s a mix of Charlie and the Chocolate factory, The Wizard of Oz, Nightmare Before Christmas, and Cirque Du Soleil.
Cut&Paste
EVENTS Cut&Paste is going to be happening this Saturday in San Francisco. Should be a great event. See you guys there.
Bike lane
RANDOM THOUGHTS This is a great concept to help improve rider safety throughout the city. Thought up by designers at Altitude, Inc., the system projects a virtual bike lane on the ground around the cyclists, providing drivers with a recognizable boundary they can easily avoid. This allows riders to take safety into their own hands. I hope they push this idea and make it real!
Oscars
ARCHITECTURE Here’s a sneak peek of the set design for the 81st Academy Awards, created by David Rockwell. This is the first time an architect was asked to design the stage. Have a great weekend everyone!
