GRAPHIC DESIGN Here’s an interesting video from a discussion at SXSW that has some interesting thoughts about the positive and negative impacts of online companies who provide cut rate designs. You can also read an article about this topic by AIGA here.
Jack in the box
GRAPHIC DESIGN I was not aware that Jack in the Box was rebranding until I saw a commercial today on TV. I was rather surprised by the new look. Though the visual identity system looks very pleasing, I can’t seem to figure out why it feels a little off. Seems like there’s a disconnect between Jack the clown and Jack the new identity.
Imagination takes over
GRAPHIC DESIGN This project done for Play-Doh is cute, creative, and kind of creepy all at the same time. Driv has a lot of really lovely pieces in his portfolio. Make sure you check it out.

Eenie meenie minie mo
GRAPHIC DESIGN So apparently the design concept that will be chosen for the London 2012 Olympics will be selected randomly. I think it’s just an easy way out for the organizers. How can they believe that there will be good design if they don’t appreciate the hard work behind it. I guess they’re just running out of time. They’ve got a lot to work on to outdo China’s 2008 Olympics.
DEM Inc
GRAPHIC DESIGN The great grandson of Chiang Kai-Shek, Demos Chiang is the creative spearhead behind design firm, DEM Inc. They are a brand developing agency who specializes in pairing the Chinese culture with Western branding and design experiences. It’s great to see how design has the power to connect eastern and western cultures.

Peter Saville
ART Peter Saville found these “In course of arrangement” signs at museums really interesting and has turned that into a piece of art in itself. I think it’s awesome that graphic designers are able to do work in both the design and fine arts field. It’s always interesting to see what a graphic designer can bring to the table.
