Public glass

EVENTS Public Glass is a great nonprofit organization that was created to meet the needs of Bay Area artists working in hot glass, specifically glass blowing and casting by providing them with a great facility and gallery space. They will be holding their annual Hot Glass & Cold Beer, tomorrow 9/12 from 6-10 PM. You can tour the space, drink some beer, and watch featured artist Ferdinand Thierot sculpt glass. I took a beginners class at Public Glass and this was the ugly paper weight I made. I now have a new found respect for glass paperweights. They’re so hard to make!

Andy Spade

EVENTS Just came back from the AIGA lecture series with Andy Spade as the guest speaker. I really enjoy what he has done to the Kate and Jack Spade labels. Unfortunately, him and his wife no longer run them. His new endeavour is a store/gallery called Partners & Spade. I’m really glad he’s gone in this direction. Partners & Spade is such a great environment for creative freedom. If you like the way Andy developed his fashion brand, you’ll probably also like Paul Smith.
