MARCEL WANDERS

ART Marcel Wanders (i love his name) is a brilliant designer who has been one of my favorites. Here’s a video of him speaking about his designs for the Mondrian South Beach Hotel. The space is breathtaking and feels so dreamlike.

WALTER ROBINSON

ART Walter Robinson is a Bay Area artist who uses his work to investigate the ways that we create identities out of the products we consume. Branding, corporate logos, mascots, cartoon characters, advertising text and signage are the semiotic sources he draws from. He is currently showing his work at the San Jose Museum of Art.

HELLOVON

ART HelloVon is a brilliant artist who does amazing pencil and graphite pieces. I’m really impressed with how his fine art pieces have a graphic design quality to them. He’s currently having a show in Los Angeles @ the Cerasoli Gallery.

IAN WRIGHT

ART Ian Wright was hired by Givenchy to create this project comprised of hundred of mascara brushes. Make sure you check out the video that documents his painstaking process.

BUSTER BALLOON

ART Buster Balloon is balloon artist who makes intricate creations including: mermaids, Spongebob, monkeys, and Elvis just to name a few. He will be having a solo show at Manhattan’s Half Gallery in September. Rumor has it that he will be collaborating with Jeff Koons on a top secret project!!

CANTOR ART CENTER

ART Just took a trip to Stanford’s Cantor Art Center for the very first time. They have a pretty nice collection of art throughout history…from Goya to Lichtenstein. I found the Experimental Music Series by Mark Applebaum most intriguing. The graphic art with evocative glyphs and densely arranged pictographs were pretty inspirational. It would be awesome if he and Marian Bantjes did something together.

FLAVOR PAPER

ART Flavor paper is an amazing company that creates unique vintage, contemporary and custom silkscreened wallpaper. The prints definitely add a lovely burst of flavor to any surrounding. Check out this video by Cool Hunting that gives us a short tour of the Flavor Paper studio.

JEAN SHIN

ART This large-scale fabric mural is composed of military uniforms donated from American soldiers. The deconstructed uniforms bring together a community of soldiers and veterans that have served in various wars, from WWII and Korea to Vietnam and Iraq.
