AVANT GARDE PRESCHOOL

FINDINGS The Avant Garde Preschool sponsored by Partners & Spade is a workshop that encourages children to make their own mark by drawing with Karen Kimmel’s nature inspired stencils. The workshop focuses on the discovery and integration of abstract thinking and promotes the exploration of color, share, and form. I’m loving the logo mark, too!

ANDY SPADE

EVENTS Just came back from the AIGA lecture series with Andy Spade as the guest speaker. I really enjoy what he has done to the Kate and Jack Spade labels. Unfortunately, him and his wife no longer run them. His new endeavour is a store/gallery called Partners & Spade. I’m really glad he’s gone in this direction. Partners & Spade is such a great environment for creative freedom. If you like the way Andy developed his fashion brand, you’ll probably also like Paul Smith.

IKEA USES VERDANA

FINDINGS Those of you who get the Ikea Catalog in the mail might already be fuming with anger. If you’ve noticed, they decided to switch it up a little and change their iconic usage of Futura to the slightly less popular typeface, Verdana. Yucky. “I think it’s mainly experts who have expressed their views, people who are interested in fonts. I don’t think the broad public is that interested.” – Ikea Spokeswoman.
